East Beach Picnic Area redevelopment

25.08.2020 12:09 PM | Anonymous

From Greg Dawson , George Town Councillor

I am super excited to announce one of the projects I have been actively advocating for, for a number of years has finally been given the stamp of approval today by George Town Council. Described as a community asset that will activate a dormant site previously occupied by a surf lifesaving club. This project will add to the recreational and tourism offerings of the municipality. Council approves the development of the East Beach All Abilities Recreation Area through the funding from Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program provided by the Australian Federal Government.

Finally we get to see the old Surf Club site redeveloped with wind and shade shelters housing bbq facilities and areas to sit and keep watch over our families as they swim, surf and enjoy the beautiful East Beach area. The redeveloped area will finally activate the beach access to those in our community with physical restrictions. Improved ramp access will be a key feature of the redevelopment. My thanks go to the General Manager and Staff of the council for making this happen.
